SUBJECT: ALWAYS IN STOCK
FROM: LIZ ROSE
I had to comment on
Xanthe Clay’s 12 Ways To
Save Money On Your
weekly Shop [Jul, p24].
No. 4: make stock from
leftover bones... I’ve been
making my own stock since
I had a pressure cooker,
and my mum before me.
You just chuck the bones
in, add potatoes/garlic/
spring onions/carrot, bring
to pressure for 15 minutes,
turn off the gas and you’re
done! I then strain, leave
to set, put in takeaway
cartons and freeze. When
I need some I take out of
the freezer, put in a bag
and bash with a rolling pin
to break off small pieces.
It works a treat.

LOTS OF YOU WROTE TO SAY HOW
MUCH YOU’VE BEEN ENJOYING
THE PUZZLES PAGE, CUPPA TIME,
DURING LOCKDOWN:
■I’ve just done the crossword.
It’s such a pleasure to receive
your magazine in the post. I’m
pregnant so I’ve been isolating
and delicious. always puts a
smile on my face. Maxime Sabatini
■My 16-year-old daughter and
19-year-old son had a great time
doing this today. Lisa White
■I thoroughly enjoyed this
month’s mag and I cracked the
crossword! Antonia James
■I enjoyed the puzzles and
this month’s magazine – a lovely
chance to take a break from
work! Jenni Brooke

And @chezspencer
poured herself a glass of
rosé to enjoy the July
issue with... We approve!

@frezngluten baked a
lavender, clotted cream
and almond cake with
lemon icing for tea-time.

@nims_noms made tahini, brown butter
and sea salt blondies and thought they
were the best blondies ever.
“The crunch of the pecans, fudgy soft centre
and the salty but sweet flavour combo is
unbeatable. Drizzle with more tahini and
a sprinkling of sea salt flakes to finish it off.
Highly, highly recommend!”

@thegreenwichkitchen
had baked falafel
in tomato sauce
for dinner.
