Q. I use collections to organize my photos,
but the Collections panel has disappeared.
Where’s it gone?
A. Accidentally hiding panels is an easy mistake to
make, and there’s a couple of ways to get them
back. You can go to Window>Panels and click on
the missing panel name, or simply Right-click on any
panel header in the same panel group (for example,
the Folders panel) and reselect the panel from the
context-sensitive menu.

Q. Since I upgraded my iPhone/iPad to iOS 14,
Auto Add has stopped working and I can’t
import photos into the Lightroom app manu-
ally. How do I add my photos now?
A. iOS 14 introduced some new security permissions
which control whether Lightroom is allowed to
access photos stored in the Photos app. If you can’t
add new photos to Lightroom, these permissions
are probably set incorrectly. To fix it, all you have
to do is open the Settings app from the iPhone/
iPad’s Home screen, and scroll down until you
find Lightroom. Tap on it, then tap on Photos,
and select the All Photos option. Switch back to
Lightroom, and then Add Photos and Auto Add
should work again.
Auto Add will only add new photos captured
after you’ve corrected the permissions, so you’ll
want to import any photos that it’s missed. Tap
on the blue Add Photos button at the bottom of
the Library or Grid view and select From Camera
Roll. Any photos that have already been imported
have a small LR icon in the corner, so tap on any
photos that are missing the icon, and then tap the
Add button to add them to Lightroom. n

Q. I’ve selected an Export preset and I want to
change some of the settings but Lightroom
won’t let me. How can I change the settings?
A. It sounds like you’ve checked a preset’s checkbox
instead of selecting or highlighting its name, and
there’s a subtle difference. The checkboxes are
used for exporting the same photos using more
than one preset, which is called a batch export,
but you can’t edit presets while in the batch
export mode.
Ensure that all of the export preset checkboxes
are unchecked, and then click on the name of the
preset you want to edit. The preset name becomes
highlighted and all of the settings on the right
become available for editing. Once you’ve finished
changing the settings, you can either click the
Export button to export the photos, or Right-click
on the preset and choose Update with Current
Settings to update the preset. Note that you can
only update the settings in User Presets and not
the Lightroom Presets.
