Whoever came up with the nylon overlay was brilliant. It makes perfect sense. High-performance tires tend to
get hotter than conventional tires by virtue of how they’re used: aggressively. The high roadway speeds and
resulting centrifugal force would naturally try to blow the tire apart. By tightly wrapping the belt package
with nylon, the higher the tire temps go, the tighter nylon gets from shrinkage, keeping the whole thing
together. Once again, brilliant! Photo courtesy of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Used with permission.
