reused, so they were examined to make sure they were straight and
without any twist to their shape, and also to ensure they are not out-of-
round or worn.
To check for twist, the rods were placed in a rod alignment instrument
with the piston pin attached to detect any gaps between the rod and the
instrument. Any gaps indicate a bent rod, but a flush alignment shows a
straight rod that can be reused.
An arbor press is used to press out wrist pins, which will separate
the piston from the rod.
