This is a Caprice police car converter we found through an Old Cars
Weekly ad. It is longer than the bad one on the car and we had to
adjust things accordingly.
Flanges on this ’89 Caprice Y-pipe were shot, but Antigo Auto Parts
found a new one. We covered it with Eastwood exhaust system
paint before installing it.
Another option is finding a supplier that specializes in custom-bending
exhaust systems for old cars. Many muffler shops and general repair
shops have bending machines, but to properly bend pipes for older cars,
the shop must also have pattern cards from the old days. The pattern
cards show the places and angles for each bend to be made. If a local
shop has pattern cards and uses bending machines, it can make the
necessary pipes. However, getting the proper muffler(s), resonator(s),
clamps, brackets and hangers can be an entirely different story.
