Front and back
Cast on 330 sts with wood and 5½
mm needles. Knit in pattern I and
follow the colour sequence. At
about 32 cm from cast-on (after the
4th row of navy), cast off 68 sts in
the middle without working yarn and
immediately cast on 68 new sts in
their place. Cast off all sts at about
64 cm from cast-on.
Finishing
For fringes, cut strands of yarn
about 30 cm long. Knot fringes at
the bottom of the poncho (as shown
in the schematic), about 26 in
matching colours along lower edges
of both front and back. Knot 4-5
strands together for each one.

Needles:
Circular needle size 6 mm
(80-100 cm)
Te ns ion:
Pattern I, 6 mm needles: 14 sts
= 10 cm wide. 24 rows = 10 cm
long.


Tip 1: The scarf is knitted cross-
wise.
Tip 2: When you change colour the
end of the yarn will be knotted into
the fringe. Leave ends about 19 cm
long.


Pattern I: 6 mm needles: reverse
stocking st = RS p, WS k.


Colour sequence: 15 rows wood, 2
rows brick, 1 row wood, 5 rows
navy, 1 row wood, 2 rows brick, 17
rows wood, 2 rows brick, 1 row

rows brick, 15 rows wood.

Cast on 254 sts with 6 mm needles
and wood. Knit in pattern I,
following the colour sequence. Work
for about 28 cm, then cast off all
sts.

Finishing
For fringes, cut strands of yarn
about 38 cm in length. Knot fringes
along the short ends of the shawl,
about 12 each end in matching
colours. Knot 4-5 strands together
for each one.

Right back and right sleeve in one
piece
Cast on 44 (48) sts with 8 mm
needles. Knit in pattern I. At 40 (38)
cm from the cast-on edge, cast on
additional sts at the right edge for
the sleeve, on every other row cast
on 1 st twice, 2 sts twice, 3 sts

once, 4 sts once, 6 sts once and 13
sts once (= 76 (80) sts) and at 79
(81) cm cast off at the right edge
again: 13 sts once, 6 sts once, 4 sts
once, 3 sts once, 2 sts twice and 1
st twice. Loosely cast off the rem 44
(48) sts.

Left back and left sleeve in one
piece
Knit to mirror the right back and
sleeve.

Finishing
Close the centre seam (= A) and the
sleeve seams (= B). With 7 mm
needles pick up 79 (83) sts along
each side edge of the back (= C) for
the front pieces. Knit in pattern II
for 30 cm, then loosely cast off,
pattern-wise. Sew the side edge of
the front pieces to the cast-off edge
of the back (= D), see tip.
