“Cottonwood”

MARY JO STIPE • LAMY, NEW MEXICO
“Th ere is a trio of cottonwoods in front of our
house. Every spring the new leaves appear, yellow-
green and shiny. As the year progresses, the leaves
take on a deep green hue, fi nally changing to yellow
as summer segues into fall. My quilt began with
improvisational piecing showcasing two of my
favorite lime and chartreuse prints. Fused appliqué
was used to introduce deeper greens and create the
three tree trunks.”

“Keep It Snappy, Sugar”

TERRI K. STROMBERG • REDMOND, WASHINGTON

“Th ese pea pods were appliquéd on a
background that was dyed, stamped, and
painted, and then quilted and embroidered.
Cocoa buttons serve as the peas.”
