Schedule performance index. The schedule performance index (SPI) is a measure of schedule
efficiencyexpressedastheratioofearnedvaluetoplannedvalue.Itmeasureshowefficientlythe
projectteamisusingitstime.Itissometimesusedinconjunctionwiththecostperformanceindex
(CPI)toforecastthefinalprojectcompletionestimates.
AnSPIvaluelessthan 1. 0 indicateslessworkwascompletedthanwasplanned.AnSPIgreaterthan
- 0 indicatesthatmoreworkwascompletedthanwasplanned.SincetheSPImeasuresallproject
work,theperformanceonthecriticalpathalsoneedstobeanalyzedtodeterminewhetherthe

TheSVandCVvaluescanbeconvertedtoefficiencyindicatorstoreflectthecostandschedule
performanceofanyprojectforcomparisonagainstallotherprojectsorwithinaportfolioofprojects.
