EPILOGUE

You may well ask after wading through this book – “OK, so what’s the big deal? I already
know most of this stuff.”

That is precisely the point of writing this book. If you do know about most of the things
written here, then why do you continue to have attacks of back pain? In fact, if you do
not have back pain now or did not have it in the past you would not be reading this
book. All the information given in this book is well known to everyone. The purpose of
writing this for you is to sift out the chaff from the grain. In other words, we have gone
through all the treatments recommended by orthopods, physicians, alternative
therapists, nurses, physiotherapists, medical device manufacturers and your
grandmothers and selected only those that have evidence of being useful and told you to
avoid others that may be useless and a waste of money or positively harmful.

Also the sequence of activities given in this book lays stress on seeing the
doctor earlier rather than later. THIS IS IMPORTANT.

The two most important chapters in this whole book are Chapter 8 on “Exercises” and
Chapter 9 on “Preventive Measures.” Chances of your back pain coming back simply
disappear if you assiduously practice all that is mentioned. Exercises are a must and
should become a regular part of your routine everyday, at least once a day. The best time
to exercise is early in the morning when you are fresh and totally relaxed. Wake up an
hour earlier than usual so that you are not rushed off your feet in order to get to work.
This also means that you must sleep earlier.

Early to bed and early to rise
Correcting your posture and exercise
Gets rid of back pain, what a pleasant surprise!!

Let us therefore summarize what we need to do when we get an acute attack of back
pain.
