Spatial design hugely influences how we perceive reality.

Design combined with technology can generate completely

new worlds. How will virtual experiences coexist with the

real world? What challenges lie ahead for interior designers?

Interstuhl’s Active Sitting Solutions is a holistic seating

system that covers all aspects of moving while sitting. Pureis3

is a swivel chair built with that concept in mind. It integrates

mobility into the workplace, adapting intuitively to the

individual user’s position and posture for maximum support.

In response to London’s housing crisis, Paula Strunden designed Micro-Utopia, a location-based VR

experience that challenges perceptions of domesticity. Strunden’s virtual world allows viewers to delve

into the metaphorical dimensions of familiar objects within the home and to better understand their

own sensory responses. In VR, the imaginary potential of ‘home’ is boundless – a world away from the

square meterage of most city dwellings.

Experience design studio Amigdala wants to provoke thought about personal identity in digital
space and about how we represent the continuity between the physical and the digital. What is the
relationship between algorithm and spatiality? The studio’s interactive installation prompts users to ask
themselves such questions by choosing an avatar and observing their recorded movements in a digitally
designed world.
