Chapter 40: Making Queries Work Together

Now, because you’re creating this query simply for the purpose of appending it to
other queries, there is no need to use the Close & Load command on the workbook.
Instead, you can choose to close and load the data as a connection only.


  1. On the Home tab of the Power Query Editor, click the drop-down arrow under
    the Close & Load button and select Close & Load To.

  2. In the Import Data dialog box, choose the option Only Create Connection and
    then click OK.

  3. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for the other worksheets in the workbook.


Once you’ve created queries for each region, activate the Queries & Connections
pane (Data ➪ Queries & Connections) to see all of the queries. As you can see in
Figure 40.8, each query is a connection-only query.

Now that your data tables have all been imported into queries, you can start appending the
data.

Appending the data
Follow these steps to append data from all other queries to the NorthData query:


  1. In the Queries & Connections pane, right-click the NorthData query and select
    Append to activate the Append dialog box shown in Figure 40.9.
