As far as listening to and hearing from God goes,
I will give you one tip. When you ask God a question
in prayer, ask with the expectation to receive the
answer right there. What I mean by this is that a lot
of times when we pray, we either pray to just make
a request, we pray to vent, or we pray to thank God
for something. Don’t get me wrong, all those things
are cool, but a lot of times we don’t pray and ask a
specific question to receive a specific answer. On top
of that, when we do ask a question, we ask it in a
very passive way.
Like, “God, show me the answer to this.” Basically,
God hit me over the head randomly and give me a
sign or something that tells me what to do.”
The problem with this approach is, once you
leave that prayer, you switch to being on high alert
looking for any sign that might tell you something
and leaving it up to you to interpret that sign.
Essentially, now you’re left guessing. “Did this mean
that?” “Did that mean this?”
Overanalyzing everything will drive you crazy.
Not only will you drive yourself crazy, you still don’t
really know if anything that you’re paying attention
to is really the sign. You still don’t really know what
