MSG, and skip all deep-fried foods on the menu.
Cuban Restaurants
Cuban food has been influenced by many traditions, owing to the complex
history of the Caribbean area. Cuban cuisine is a fusion of Spanish, French,
African, Arabic, Chinese, and Caribbean cuisines. Most of the food is sautéed or
slow cooked over a low flame. Very little is deep-fried, and there are no heavy
sauces. Many dishes use a sofrito as their base. The sofrito consists of an onion,
green pepper, garlic, and oregano mixture quickfried in olive oil. Meats and
poultry are usually marinated in citrus juices. Vegetables in Cuban cuisine
include yucca and malanga, which are very starchy and should be avoided on the
Perfect 10 Diet.
Fast Food and Pizzerias
You don’t have to skip fast-food chains or pizzerias on the Perfect 10 Diet, but
avoid fried choices, please. Trans fats are notorious for messing up hormones. In
fast-food chains, salads or chicken sandwiches without the bun or fries are
acceptable. No diet can be perfect without pizza. Look for pizzerias offering
vegetable-topped options made with wholegrain crusts in Stages Two and Three
of the Perfect 10 Diet.
