customers and I had to go to them constantly, especially on
Saturday mornings (it was through them I learnt the combination of
bread and pap).
My mother also had a pepper miller (Grinding Machine) for
grinding pepper, millet, etc for customers around us. Myself and
my father were used to handling any minor faults on the machine,
and I do remember whenever we were working on the machine, my
father used to tell me like prophesies, that I would one day grow up
to become an engineer (what area of engineering, my father could
not foretell).
Would I say my father was wicked? No, he was rather strict and was
highly disciplined that he would not condone nor accept nonsense
or unruly behavior in whatever guise. I remember when I took
sweet from my mother's counter and my father heard about it, that
day I saw hell, on the day in question, not even the presence of my
maternal grandmother could spare me from the wrath of the rod and
maize grains on which I had to kneel. - Prov. 23:13. Withhold not
correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he
shall not die.
Above all, our growing up was with all sorts of challenges from
every corner, physically and spiritually. My mother's last
experience in the labour room around 1974 was so traumatic that
she was only saved miraculously by God. I have never in my life,
even up till now seen that kind of an experience like that of my
mother's. The child was a still birth alright but the child's intestine
was actually placed by the side of its stomach (that is outside the
stomach). Isn't that an experience? It was amazing, the
awesomeness of our God.
Thank God my mother was at the mission house maternity home of
“The Glorious Vision – The Apostolic Church”. - Eph 6:12 For we
wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
The accident caused me to stay indoors for quite some time after I
was discharged from the hospital. I was hospitalized for four
weeks and thereafter remained at home for another five months,
since I could not do any tedious work as my job entailed at that
time, I could not resume back to work immediately until my
Doctor could confirm me fit at my organization's request.
After about five months that I had been home, I had to revisit the
proposal from a foreign embassy wanting me to work for them. I
was eventually given the offer of employment in July and I
resumed immediately, having resigned formally from my former
appointment. They (my former organization) took care of me very
well during and after my hospitalization, they were paying all my
dues while I was staying at home as if I was in service. But, I
needed to be engaged to kill boredom; hence I took up the
challenge of the new job.
I was actually warned when I was to take up the job (spiritually),
but my reaction was that sacrifice for Christians is to pray and fast,
which I did for seven days terminating on my resumption date.
I had been a resident engineer to this Organisation right from my
days in the previous employment, and so was not strange to them;
only that I was now on their payroll.
