He told me then that at my age (just out of college barely a month or
two and awaiting result), that I now had to be getting close to the
person in whose trust he had committed his house back in the
village and that I should no longer visit a particular land also in the
village (we had gone to that land while I was still in the college
during one of my father's visits, to erect a signage). Right now I
cannot say the exact location of the land.
We got back to Lagos the following day, leaving behind my mother
and my father. After that, we paid one or two more visits to them
before my father finally came back to Lagos on his own self-
induced discharge. Asked why, he was quick to say that he was
okay and that the person beside his bed at the hospital was a
tuberculosis patient, and that he could not afford to add
tuberculosis to his own ailment (good point, but it was not him) -
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of
this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
The sickness soon relapsed and became worse. In this situation, he
managed to go for his send-off ceremony at the Nigerian Railways
Corporation. In the month of August that year, precisely 1st of
August, 1980, my father had to be taken to our home town in Ekiti
State (both my mother and father had to relocate). Exactly one
month later, i.e. September 1st 1980, my father passed on to glory
at the age of Fifty Five years. The exit of my father marked the
beginning of my travail in life.
I was driving the vehicle while wife sat on the passenger's seat
beside me carrying our son. My brother, his fiancée and our
daughter occupied the back seat. We would have plunged into the
river by the side, but God moved in His miraculous act to save us
His children. It was as if we had had a premonition of the incidence.
Because our son was fond of touching the windscreen and climbing
on his mother, we had to send him to the back. We had just done this
when the accident occurred. The car got damaged, a soul was lost
and I had to stay in the police station as their guest, so I did not get
home that day. I was the only person in the police station that night.
The following day (Monday), people started coming; the church,
my office, and from the other party that was involved. In fact, their
own story is pathetic (it is not meant for this book).
The case was taken to court on Tuesday and I was released on bail.
We had to settle the family of the deceased, according to our
capacity, and with prayers (the effectual fervent prayer of the
righteousness availeth much – James 5:16), the court case was
done with and I was eventually discharged and acquitted. God used
the magistrate greatly to our favour. All things work together for
good............ - Rom. 8:28.
So many other mysterious things soon followed in quick
succession. What really amazed us was the fact that somebody that
we left in the village when we were leaving that day, claimed that
she had known immediately that accident occurred. When we
asked her how she knew, she said that one of her friends traveled
that same day and saw us. We do not wrestle against flesh and
blood, but against principalities, powers....... – Eph. 6:12.
Up till now, we do not know who this friend was that failed to stop
if truly she had seen us, to help us that day or at least sympathize.
