The Path Of Life, The Journey Of Living

ever think I could have any problem with him, but I did. There was
a kind of conspiracy against me before him from a cousin,
probably out of jealousy. The man took it seriously and this
severed our once rosy relationship and so nothing could be
expected from that end.

After my National diploma (ND), I went to him to ask him if I
could do my compulsory one year Industrial Attachment with him,
before going back for my HND, since he had a technical outfit
dealing in Electrical/Mechanical, his response was not
encouraging and so, I had to look elsewhere. Psalm 1 18:9- “It is
better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.”

HND EXPERIENCE

Going back for my HND was another experience and in fact
remarkable. I was so sure that my going back would be automatic
and without any form of hindrance at all for the simple fact that I
had a credit pass in my ND and that I was an alumnus of the school,
but I was totally wrong as the first list came out without my name.

I had thought that it was a mistake, but the second list soon came
out still without my name. I later learnt that my slot was given to a
lady with an ordinary pass.

I then resorted to prayers since I did not even obtain any other form
than that of my school for my HND. With God and whom you
know, two of us in my department were later given admission from
the third list. The power of prayer – Matt. 21:22

The next two years for my HND was a traumatic one without
funfair, but thank God, I was able to cope. I finished in June 1986

procured my own mattress for N50, my friend's bed, mattress and
pillow for N49 and conveyed all for N1 (the change).

A double deck stereo was also procured during my school days
when the Federal Government paid us N250 feeding subsidy. The
deck costs N180 while I used the rest on books and a school bag.

Our settee was done during the service year for N300; my one
month stipend (N 200 ) from federal Government- NYSC
Secretariat and N100 allowance from LSBC (Lagos State
Broadcasting Corporation).

We had a mini introduction that took place at the village and
thereafter, I had to go and excuse my wife from her uncle with
whom she was staying at that time for her to move in with me. That
was our resolve that, the struggle is for us and no one should bear
our burden for us.

The child was born on the 1st of July after my disengagement from
NYSC and we were still hoping that the job as promised by LSBC
would come through. The naming ceremony was performed and it
went well.

Because I had been promised of the job, I did not bother myself
looking for job here and there, as was the case of other co-coppers.
The job soon became a mirage owning to the dissolution of the
LSBC board at the period I was rounding off my youth service
scheme. That incident ended my optimism and dreams of being
retained at LSBC as that could not be possible without the board. It
now dawned on me that I had to get myself together to get off the
seat and hit the road in other to move forward. My search for job
began.
