We soon came up with a few ideas that seemed to work quite well.
We did videos where I would attempt to teach Ollie Korean. He’s an
excellent student but could do with learning how to dress to impress
and also just listening when I’m trying to explain something. Videos like
this were also interesting to make because they didn’t require as much
planning and filming time as we usually spent on ‘Korean Englishman’
episodes. It freed us up to try different things and experiment
experimentally and discover what worked. A lot of our videos involved
trying different foods from around the world, in a similar way to what we
had done with ‘Korean Englishman’. We filmed a video where Gabie
tried some of the UK’s weirdest foods, like black pudding and haggis.
She loved both of these, but then she tried jellied eel and threw up,
instantly and understandably. This kind of video was great fun, but we
also found that we could sometimes leave more space for our guests
to talk about things a bit more deeply. For example, we made a lot of
episodes with our friend Rev Chris, who is a real life priest, but is also
married (which is allowed in the Church of England) to a genius writer
called Jenny. Although ‘JOLLY’ is often rib-crackingly hilarious, it was
