productivestructures.Biochemicaltestsareusedmainlytoidentifyyeasts
andaregenerallynotasimportantinmycologyastheyareinbacteriology.
&Serology.Bytheidentificationofantibodiestospecialfungalantigensin
patient’sserum.TheInterpretationofserologicalfindingsisquitedifficultin
fungalinfections.
&Antigendetection.Byfindingofspecificantigensinthediagnosticma-
terialbydirectmeansusingknownantibodies,possibleinsomefungalin-
fections(e.g.,cryptococcosis).
&Cutaneoustest.Cutaneous(allergy)testswithspecificfungalantigens
canbeusefulindiagnosinganumberoffungalinfections.
