ACER SPATIALABS
£TBC, acer.com

Early days for this one, so early it doesn’t have
a specific product attached to it, but Acer’s
recent ConceptD laptop launch came with one
proposed variant that literally stood out: it
featured the company’s Spatialabs display.
Combining high-end optics, eye tracking,
traditional stereoscopic tech and a whole lot of
internal processing power, Spatialabs screens
show images in full 3D without the need for
glasses. We’ve seen similar elsewhere, such as
in the 3 DS (sort of), Sony’s Spatial Reality
Display and the Looking Glass Portrait, a crude-
but-cool Kickstarter success, but never in a thin
laptop screen. This is made for creative
professionals – and, at least initially, will be
loaned to a select few 3 D wizards for free while
Acer works out the kinks – but who knows
what it might mean for future home displays...?

T 3 SAYS: Impressive: will it be consumer-friendly?

BMW 4 SERIES
GRAN COUPÉ
From £ 40 , 465 , bmwgroup.com

Due in November and sitting atop the second-
generation 4 Series line, the four-door Gran
Coupé shouts of compromise. Not in its engine,
which can be specced as high as a
turbocharged 3 -litre petrol unit capable of
369bhp, and not in its Merino leather interior,
with a 1 0.25-inch BMW Live Cockpit
Professional digital readout. Not even in its
outer design, which borrows the divisive kidney
grille from the 3 Series but otherwise switches
things up significantly. This is a compromise car
because it’ll get you power and luxury, but also
room to stuff the kids and shopping in the
back. While we’re sure many will choose the
same-platformed all-electric i 4 over this petrol
or diesel alternative, the mild hybrid engine on
offer here is at least a nod to economy.

T 3 SAYS: Plenty cool, however you use it.
