68. Spigot of Mercy

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty
inner strength through his Holy Spirit.

AMgazing through the front window of our log cabin, watching
my husband as he sits uncomfortably on our comfortable screen
porch talking on the telephone. This is the time of day that we usu-
ally take off for lunch. The time of day he turns off his lathe and
brushes the wood chips off of his faded navy T-shirt and stops turn-
ing bowls. The time of day I turn off the computer and allow the
words to hang temporarily in the air as we turn up the ceiling fan
and settle down to talk and laugh and share a sandwich and a cool
glass of lemonade.
But not today, it seems.
Today he is squirming uneasily in his easy chair. He has not even
remembered to turn up the fan. His brow is furrowed and he’s barely
saying a word. I have no idea what this is about. I wish I did. Then
I would know what to pray. But if I trust the Spirit to lead me, he
will.
