34. God’s Rescue Operation

We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.
2 Chronicles 20:12B
EINGa writer calls me into intimate relationships with people I
have never met. You are one of those people. Though I can’t see
the scenery outside your window or the heartbreak inside your
heart, I still feel that I know you very well. I know that you struggle.
You suffer. You have joy and pain—challenging and rewarding rela-
tionships. Sometimes you are filled with boldness and confidence
and sometimes you are paralyzed by indecision and fear.
How can I claim to know you so intimately? Because we are both
members of the human race and we go through the same kinds of
things. We both have a desperate need for God.
That’s why in difficult times we can pray as Jehoshaphat did in 2
Chronicles 20:12: “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on
you.” That prayer of powerlessness releases all of God’s power into
our situation. Then we can hear these words:
