Creating a Connection File Library
Before creating Power View Reports, you need to create a document library that supports
the type of connection fi les that Power View can use to connect to Semantic Model data
sources. This is a very important step as the Report Data Source content type contains spe-
cial fi elds to defi ne data source connections.
To create a document library that supports connection fi les to Semantic Model data sources
follow these steps:
- Launch your browser and navigate to the SharePoint 2010 site for which you want
to create the Connections File Library. - Click Site Actions and select New Document Library from the options. The Create
screen opens. - Type a name for the new library, for example, Connection Files. Select None from
the Document Template option and click on the Create button. The Connection File
library is created and opens. - Click the Library option under the Library Tools tab of the SharePoint ribbon and
click on Library Settings. The Library settings screen opens. - Click on Advanced settings. The Advanced settings screen opens.
- Select the Yes radio button of the Content Types section to allow management of
content types and click OK. The Document Library screen opens again. - Under Content Types, click Add from existing site content types. The Add Content
Types screen opens. - From the available content types, select the BI Semantic Model Connection and
Report Data Source content types to the add list, and click OK.

Creating a Report Data Source File
To create a Report Data Source fi le based on a PowerPivot workbook, follow the next steps:
- Launch your browser, and navigate to the SharePoint 2010 Connection File docu-
ment library created in the previous section. - Under the Library Tools tab on the SharePoint Ribbon, click the Documents option.
The Documents menu options display on the SharePoint Ribbon section. - Click the small downward pointing arrow in the right corner of the New Document
menu option to display the drop-down menu, as shown in Figure 59-2.
