Chapter 59: Creating and Deploying Power View Reports

59

The PowerPivot Gallery in SharePoint 2010 enables you to launch Power View directly from a
PowerPivot workbook (.xlsx fi le), as shown on Figure 59-1.

FIGURE 59-1

You can also launch Power View from a shared data source with a Microsoft Business
Intelligence Semantic Model data source type, based either on a PowerPivot fi le or a tabular
model database on an Analysis Services server from any library. Shared data sources have a
fi le type extension of .rsds.

The next section walks you through the steps to create a document library that supports
Semantic Model data source connection fi les. The sections that follow walk you through
the steps to create Report Data Source fi les and BI Semantic Model Connection fi les based
on a PowerPivot workbook and an Analysis Services tabular model database.

For more information on creating and deploying BI Semantic Models to SharePoint 2010
using PowerPivot or deploying Tabular Models to an Analysis Services Tabular mode
instance, refer to Chapter 58, “Creating and Deploying BI Semantic Models,”. The examples
in the next two sections assume that a PowerPivot workbook has already been deployed
to a SharePoint 2010 PowerPivot Gallery and that a Tabular Model has been deployed to an
Analysis Services instance in Tabular Mode.
