Part V: Enterprise Data Management
- On the Mirror Server Instance page, click the Connect button to display the
Connect to Server dialog box. Type the connection properties of the mirror server,
and click Connect. This brings you back to the Mirror Server Instance page. Type
the TCP/IP port for the endpoint on the mirror server. The default port is 5023, and
again you should use a nondefault port for security reasons. Also, by default the
check box for Encrypt data sent through this endpoint is selected. Have this check
box selected to ensure that the data transferred across the network is encrypted. If
for any reason you do not need encryption, uncheck this box. You can also change
the endpoint name on this page. Click Next to continue. - The Witness Server Instance page, as shown in Figure 27-5, displays if you select
Witness Server in the Include Witness Server page. Click the Connect button to dis-
play the Connect to Server dialog box. Type the connection properties of the wit-
ness server, and click Connect. This brings you back to the Witness Server Instance
page. Type the TCP/IP port for the endpoint on the witness server. Also, if your wit-
ness server is on the same physical server as the mirror server, use a different port.
Don’t have the witness server on the same physical server as the principal server
because the loss of the physical server can make both the principal and witness
server unavailable, and automatic failover cannot be achieved. Also, by default the
check box for Encrypt data sent through this endpoint is selected. Have this check
box selected to ensure that the data transferred across the network is encrypted. If
for any reason you do not need encryption, uncheck this box. You can also change
the endpoint name on this page. Click Next to continue.
