Explanation
Apart from the first two herbs which regulate the Lesser Yang, this formula clears Gall-Bladder
Heat and resolves Phlegm-Heat and Damp-Heat by combining Wen Dan Tang Warming the
Gall-Bladder Decoction (Zhu Ru, Zhi Ke, Ban Xia, Fu Ling and Chen Pi) which resolves
Phlegm-Heat and Bi Yu San Jasper Powder (Hua Shi, Gan Cao, Qing Dai) which drains
Damp-Heat.
- Qing Hao and Huang Qin regulate the Lesser Yang. Qing Hao releases the Exterior of
the Lesser Yang and Huang Qin clears the Interior of the Lesser Yang. - Zhu Ru resolves Phlegm-Heat and eliminates turbidity.
- Ban Xia, Chen Pi and Fu Ling resolve Dampness and Phlegm.
- Zhi Ke moves Qi.
- Hua Shi, Gan Cao and Qing Dai help to resolve Damp-Heat.
Lesser Yang Pattern
Clinical Manifestations
Alternation of feeling cold and hot, more cold than hot, bitter taste, dry throat, blurred vision,
hypochondrial pain, no thirst, irritability, vomiting.
Tongue: white coating on the right side.
Pulse: Wiry and Fine.
This is the Lesser Yang pattern of the 6 Stages. It differs from the previous pattern in so far as
there is more cold than heat and not so much Phlegm or Dampness.
Both this pattern and the previous one may appear in the course of post-viral fatigue syndromes.
