Explanation


This pill, sometimes also called Li Fei Tang or just Li Fei, nourishes Lung-Yin and strengthens
the Lung and Kidney's Defensive-Qi systems. It is absorbing and is therefore good for
night-sweating from Lung-Yin deficiency. It also contains stopping-bleeding herbs (Bai Ji) and
can therefore be used if there is expectoration of scanty, blood-specked sputum.


The tongue presentation appropriate to this remedy is a Red body in the front.

Bai He Gu Jin Tang
(Lilium Consolidating Metal Decoction)


Bai He Bulbus Lilii 15 g
Mai Men Dong Tuber Ophiopogonis japonici 9 g
Xuan Shen Radix Scrophulariae ningpoensis 9 g
Sheng Di Huang Radix Rehmanniae glutinosae 9 g
Shu Di Huang Radix Rehmanniae glutinosae praeparata 9 g
Dang Gui Radix Angelicae sinensis 6 g
Bai Shao Radix Paeoniae albae 9 g
Jie Geng Radix Platycodi grandiflori 6 g
Chuan Bei Mu Bulbus Fritillariae cirrhosae 6 g
Gan Cao Radix Glycyrrhizae uralensis 3 g

Clinical Manifestations


Chronic asthma with infrequent attacks which usually occur at night, wheezing, breathlessness
on exertion, dry throat, night sweating, backache, tinnitus, dry cough, 5-palm heat.


Tongue: Red and without coating in the front part.


Pulse: Floating-Empty.

  • Bai He and Mai Men Dong nourish Lung-Yin.

  • Xuan Sheng Shen Di nourish Kidney-Yin and clear any Empty-Heat.
