- To enhance the antitussive effect add Kuan Dong Hua Flos Tussilaginis farfarae,

Explanation
The first three herbs comprise the first formula which is simply a variation of Ma Huang Tang
Ephedra Decoction without Gui Zhi. This formula releases the Exterior, expels Wind, scatters
Cold, restores the descending of Lung-Qi and stops cough.
- Jing Jie and Jie Geng release the Exterior and restore the descending of Lung-Qi. Jie
Geng stops cough. - Bai Qian and Chen Pi resolve Phlegm.
- Bai Bu and Zi Wan stop cough.

Phlegm) add Ban Xia Rhizoma Pinelliae ternatae, Hou Po Cortex Magnoliae officinalis
