Explanation


This syrup is more Yin-nourishing than the previous remedy. This remedy nourishes Lung-Yin
and clears Lung Empty-Heat. The main sign pointing to the use of this remedy, apart from a
chronic cough from Lung-Yin deficiency and Empty-Heat, is a tongue which is Red, dry and
without coating in the front part.

Explanation


This well-known pill nourishes Lung- and Kidney-Yin. It is therefore suitable for chronic cough
from deficiency of both Lung- and Kidney-Yin, especially in old people. The tongue
presentation is a Red body which is dry, cracked and without coating.


Lung-Dryness


Clinical Manifestations


Dry cough with a low sound, dry throat and mouth.


Tongue: Dry.


Pulse: Floating-Empty.


This is a condition of Dryness of the Lungs but without all the symptoms of Yin deficiency. It is
a state that often precedes Yin deficiency. It often occurs in people with a predisposition to Lung
deficiency who, through their work, need to use their voice a lot (such as teachers). In such cases
it is usually associated with a deficiency of Stomach-Yin as the Stomach is the origin of fluids.


This pattern may also arise following an invasion of Wind-Heat when this dries the Lung-fluids
and leads to Dryness with some residual Heat or Phlegm-Heat in the Lungs. It is manifested with
