Explanation


This formula is selected if the deficiency of Kidney-Essence presents with symptoms and signs
of Kidney-Yin deficiency.



  • The first six herbs constitute the Liu Wei Di Huang Wan to nourish Kidney-Yin.

  • Ci Shi sinks Liver-Yang and treats tinnitus and deafness.

  • Chang Pu opens the orifices and therefore opens the ears.

  • Wu Wei Zi nourishes Yin and, being sour, moderates the pungency of Chang Pu.


Variations



  • If the symptoms of Yin deficiency are pronounced add Gui Ban Plastrum Testudinis, Mu
    Li Concha Ostreae and Nu Zhen Zi Fructus Ligustri lucidi.
