Ren-12 Zhongwan, ST-36 Zusanli, BL-20 Pishu, ST-8 Touwei, Du-20 Baihui, ST-40 Fenglong.
Reinforcing method on all points except ST-40 which should be reduced.



  • If the Phlegm is in the Lungs, reduce LU-5 Chize.


Explanation



  • Ren-12, ST-36 and BL-20 tonify the Spleen to resolve Phlegm.

  • ST-8 resolves Phlegm from the head and relieves the feeling of muzziness of the head.

  • Du-20 promotes the rising of clear Yang to the head and the descending of turbid Qi
    from it.

  • LU-5 resolves Phlegm from the Lungs.

Ban Xia Rhizoma Pinelliae ternatae 15 g
Chen Pi Pericarpium Citri reticulatae 12 g
Fu Ling Sclerotium Poriae cocos 9 g
Zhi Gan Cao Radix Glycyrrhizae uralensis praeparata 5 g
Sheng Jiang Rhizoma Zingiberis officinalis recens 3 g
Wu Mei Fructus Pruni Mume 1 plum

Explanation



  • Ban Xia resolves Phlegm.

  • Chen Pi and Fu Ling drain Dampness, which helps to resolve Phlegm.


This is the basic prescription to resolve Phlegm in any part of the body and any organ. It can be
widely adapted to suit various conditions. Many other resolving-Phlegm prescriptions (e.g. Wen
Dan Tang Warming the Gall-Bladder Decoction and Qing Qi Hua Tan Tang Clearing Qi and
Resolving Phlegm Decoction) are variations of Er Chen Tang.
