Stagnation of Qi in the Chest
Clinical Manifestations
Distending pain in the chest that moves from place to place and comes and goes, hypochondrial
distension.
Tongue: not significant to diagnose this pattern.
Pulse: Wiry.
This is due to stagnation of Qi of the Liver and Heart. The feeling of distension, the moving of
the pain from place to place and the fact that it comes and goes, are all typical of Qi stagnation.
Treatment Principle
Move Qi, relax the chest, soothe the Liver and Heart, stop pain.

Ren-17 Shanzhong, P-6 Neiguan, T.B.-6 Zhigou, G.B.-34 Yanglingquan, LIV-3 Taichong,
BL-17 Geshu, BL-15 Xinshu, BL-18 Ganshu, BL-14 Jueyinshu. Reducing or even method.
Explanation
- Ren-17 moves Qi in the chest. It is inserted horizontally usually downwards, but it can be
slanted towards the direction of the area of pain. - P-6 moves Qi in the chest, relaxes and opens the chest, calms the Mind and settles the
Ethereal Soul. - T.B.-6 and G.B.-34 move Qi in the hypochondrial region.
- LIV-3 moves Liver-Qi, relaxes the sinews, calms the Mind and settles the Ethereal Soul.
