Huang Bo Cortex Phellodendri
Explanation
This remedy nourishes Kidney-Yin and drains Damp-Heat from the Bladder. It can be used to
treat chronic Blood Painful-Urination Syndrome deriving from deficiency of Kidney-Yin with
Empty-Heat in the Blood.
The tongue presentation appropriate to this remedy is a Red and peeled body but with a
sticky-yellow, rootless coating and red spots on the root.
Note
Blood in the urine may be due in Western medicine to many different conditions. It should also
always be kept in mind that the most common cause of haematuria in men over 50 is carcinoma
of the bladder. For these reasons, persistent haematuria should never be treated without a proper
Western diagnosis.
