Explanation
- Fu Ping releases the Exterior, expels Wind-Water and resolves oedema.
- Fang Feng, Su Ye and Ma Huang expel Wind-Cold, release the Exterior and regulate
the Water passages of the Upper Burner. - Xing Ren helps the previous herbs to release the Exterior by promoting the descending
of Lung-Qi. - Sheng Jiang Pi resolves oedema.
Variations
These variations apply to all three previous formulae.
- If urination is scanty add Ze Xie Rhizoma Alismatis orientalis (or increase it if it is
already in the prescription) and Chi Xiao Dou Semen Phaseoli calcarati. - If symptoms of Heat are pronounced add Lian Qiao Fructus Forsythiae suspensae and
Chai Hu Radix Bupleuri. - If there is blood in the urine add Xiao Ji Herba Cephalanoplos segeti and Bai Mao Gen
Rhizoma Imperatae cylindricae. - If the throat is sore and swollen add She Gan Rhizoma Belamcandae chinensis and Da
Qing Ye Folium Isatidis seu Baphicacanthi. - If there is an underlying deficiency of Qi add Huang Qi Radix Astragali membranacei
and Fang Ji Radix Aristolochiae seu Cocculi.
