- Format student answer and response cells.
Go to cell B8. Use the instructions in Step 2 to access the Format Cell dia-
log box to change the font to Arial, the size to 20, to center the text horizon-
tally and vertically, and to change the cell color to red. Additionally, click
on the Protection tab, and remove the check mark from the box next to
Locked. Click OK to exit, and then do the same for cell D8, except make the
cell blue.
This next formula will allow a student to enter his/her answer into cell B8
and have Excel display a phrase telling him/her whether or not the answer
is correct. The difficulty of this is that Excel can not compare the student’s
response until he/she presses F9. Pressing F9, however, will change the
location of the smiley face, and the student’s answer will be wrong. You
need to tell Excel to change the value of cell A8 (and the location of the
