Creating the Solution
- Select cells A1-H5 and right-click. Select Format Cells; make the font Ariel,
10 pt, and click on the checkbox next to Merge cells under Alignment. Enter
the following text, pressing Alt+Enter at the end of each line (twice before
the last line) to insert line breaks:
Your club is raising money by selling popcorn and you want to make boxes to sell it in.
You are going to start with 8 1/2 x 11 paper and cut squares out of each corner.
Then, you can fold up the sides and fasten them with tape.
What size square in each corner will give you a box with the largest possible volume?
- Select cells J1-M2 and right-click. Select Format Cells; make the font Ariel,
12 pt, bold and click on the checkbox next to Merge cells under Alignment.
Enter the following text: The Popcorn Box Problem - Draw the popcorn box layout.
a. You will use the Drawing toolbar. If this toolbar is not already visible,
select View → Toolbars → Drawing. In the Draw drop-down menu, se-
lect Snap → To Grid.
