There wasn’t much need
to pass with the way Burnham
drove through tacklers and
the way the senior-filled
front of linemen Keegan
Opper, Brett Weaver, Davis
Hurley, Gavin Graczyk and
Kadyn Warner dominated the
ballgame.
Warner said those five
have been playing together
for three years now.
“We are so close,” Warner
said. “Just knowing that your
brother has his assignment
and knowing that you’ve just
got to do your job, that helps
out so much.”
Warner was strong on the
defensive front from his end
position as well for the
Trojans, finishing with 3.
tackles.
“Gap control – we really
emphasized that. Everybody
had their gap and it worked
out well,” Warner said.
Bourdonhad 7.5 tackles
for the Trojans, Parker
Schmidt six and Burnham
four.
It was a tough night to try
and come from behind in the
elements. McKenzie was
6-of-20 passing for 81 yards.
Townsend had three catches

for 42 yards and a team-high
18 rushes for 66 yards.
McKenzie managed 41 yards
on 13 rush attempts. Justice
Reed added two receptions
for 18 yards for the Caledonia
offense.
Senior Luke Mandsager
led the Caledonia defense
with nine tackles.
Sophomore Blake Herron
had 7.5 and senior Andrew
DeVries 5.5. Junior line-
backer Theren Sanders also
recovered a Trojan fumble
for the Scots.
“It was awesome to play
with those guys. I’m going to
miss those seniors. It was a
lot of fun all year,” McKenzie
said.
“I think we have to take
this as motivation into the
offseason,” he added. “Use
this as motivation to work
our butts off the whole year.
We’ve just got to get back to

this spot and beat them next
year hopefully. Get back to
this spot.”
The MHSAA Division 2
Football Semifinals will pit
Traverse City Central against
South Lyon and Livonia
Franklin against Warren De
La Salle Collegiate this
weekend. South Lyon scored
a 29-23 overtime win over
Portage Central in their
regional final Friday. Livonia
Franklin bested Waterford
Mott 43-26 Friday as well.
De La Salle defeated
Roseville 45-14 last Saturday
in its regional final at Wayne
State University.
“We know what happened
last year,” Burnham said.
“We lost in the semifinals
and all of us seniors and
juniors we know what that
feeling is and we’re not
going to let that happen
again.”

Traverse City Central
improved to 11-1 heading
into the state semifinals. The
Trojans’ lone defeat was
against DeWitt at Michigan
Stadium in Ann Arbor in
week one of the season. That
DeWitt had also advanced to
the regional round of the
state tournament last week-
end.
Caledonia closes the sea-
son, the first with coach
Pennington at the helm, with
a 10-2 record.
“I’m just super proud of
our kids,” Pennington said.
“For us to come into a new
program and got 10-2 and
come within a play or two of
winning the OK Red and
then win the district and beat
Mona Shores, the kids have a
lot to be proud of. Tonight
didn’t turn out like we want-
ed, but I am really proud of
our kids.”
