Pronunciation Guidelines


Although pronunciation of medical words usually follows the same rules that govern pronunciation of English words,
you may have difficulty pronouncing some medical terms when you first encounter them. Selected terms in this book
include phonetic pronunciation. In addition, you can find pronunciation guidelines on the inside back cover of this
book. Use them whenever you need help with the pronunciation of medical words. Locate and study the pronunciation
guidelines before proceeding with Section Review 1–1.
