Lace patterns, like eyelet patterns,
are generally somewhat dainty and
elegant. Lace appears in all kinds of
designs—fancy sweaters, shawls,
throws, tablecloths, and as decorative
borders. It’s a wonder to watch your
pattern develop row by row.
LACE RIB
This pattern uses the decrease slip, slip, knit, abbreviated ssk. (For a refresher on
ssk, see page 56.) Also called faggoting, this lace is worked on a multiple of 3
stitches plus 1.
1 Row 1 (RS): K1, yo, ssk, k1; repeat from to end.
2 Row 2 (WS): K1, yo, p2tog, k1; repeat from to end.
3 Repeat rows 1 and 2 for lace rib.

TRIANGLE LACE
This very textured lace pattern is great for baby blankets, throws, and scarves.
You work this pattern over an odd number of stitches.
1 Row 1 (RS): K1, yo, slip 1, k1, yo, pass the k st and the yo over; repeat
from to end.
2 Row 2 (WS): P2, drop the yo from the previous row; repeat from to last
stitch, p1.
3 Row 3: K2, yo, slip 1, k1, yo, pass the k st and the yo over; repeat from
to last stitch, k1.
4 Row 4: P3, drop the yo from the previous row, p2; repeat from to end.
5 Repeat rows 1–4 for triangle lace.
