SHAPE MITTEN TIP


1 Round 1: K2, k2tog; rep from to end of rnd—15 (18, 21, 24) sts.


2 Rounds 2 and 4: Knit.


3 Round 3: K1, k2tog; rep from to end of rnd—10 (12, 14, 16) sts.


4 Round 5: K2tog; rep from to end of rnd—5 (6, 7, 8) sts.


5 Final round: K2tog; rep from to end of rnd—3 (3, 4, 4) sts.


6 Cut yarn, leaving a 10-inchtail. Pull tail through rem sts, tighten, and fasten.


MITTEN THUMB
Note:In this part of the pattern, you pick up stitches. For a refresher on how to do this, see page 154.


1 Divide the 8 (10, 10, 10) sts from the holder evenly over three dpns. Pick up 2
sts from inside thumb on mitten hand—10 (12, 12, 12) sts.


2 Knit every rnd until thumb is about^1 ⁄ 4 inch shorter than desired length.


3 K2tog across all sts next 2 rnds—3 sts.


4 Cut yarn, pull tail through the last 3 sts, and tighten.


FINISHING


1 Weave in ends, using end at cuff to secure the join of the first rnd, if necessary.


Note:You can make a crochet mitten chain (see page 192) if desired. Simply crochet the chain a little shorter than the length of the arm span from wrist to wrist—arms held
out to the sides. Sew ends to cuffs.
