Cherimoya Freeze


People throughout the South Pacific adore this dish. Many people in the Hawaiian Islands have told me it reminds them of childhood visits to


local fruit stands where they’d enjoy a similar sticky, sweet frozen treat. When it is cherimoya season, I always make extra and fill my freezer.


Serve with Buckies, with chopped nuts, or on its own.


SERVES 2 TO 4

5 cherimoyas, peeled and seeded
Juice of 2 limes

Put the cherimoyas in a sealed container and freeze for about 8 hours, or until firm. Put the frozen fruit through a homogenizing juicer with the blank
plate in place, or purée in a food processor until smooth. Add the lime juice and process until smooth. Pour into individual bowls and serve.
