Bliss Balls
This recipe for these fantastic little treats is one of the oldest recipes I know. As a child, I learned to make nut-butter refrigerator balls. These
Bliss Balls are the raw evolution of my mother’s recipe. Many people tell me of the blissful experience they get from eating this most delectable
of desserts.
SERVES 4 TO 6
1 cup sprouted oats or Buckies
1 cup seeded, soaked dates, drained
1 cup raw nut butter (such as almond or hazelnut)
½ cup soaked raisins, drained
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
¼ cup raw carob powder
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 cup raw wheat germ or sunflower seeds, ground into a fine powder (if needed to dry out mix)
1 cup sesame seeds
In a food processor, mix the oats, dates, nut butter, raisins, vanilla, carob, and cinnamon. Add the wheat germ only if the oat mixture is runny. The
oat mixture should be tacky, like cookie dough. Spread the sesame seeds on a tray or plate. Roll the nut mixture into 1- to 2-inch balls, then roll the
balls in the sesame seeds to coat and serve.
