Chris Tiegreen, author of Creative Prayer, writes,
“Historically and biblically, communication between God and
humanity has usually been a full sensory experience.” 8 He
suggests an array of artistic resources to help you develop a
more “imaginative, emotional, tangible, artistic, and intimate”
conversation with God. 9 In his book, he discusses a variety of
ways to experience God by involving posture, sight, sound,
taste, and movement. His use of color reflects his conviction
that “God does not suppress your emotions, and He doesn’t
ask you to suppress them either.” 10


Try it: Gather any type of colorful utensils—crayons, pens,
colored pencils, paint—find a table with a window view, and fill
the air with your favorite instrumental music. Then on blank
paper, creatively express your love toward God. Instead of
expressing yourself to God in words, express yourself to Him
through the use of color, design, texture, and space.


God Wants to Spend Time With You


If you want to truly experience a most intimate and very
effective prayer life—where your time alone with God makes
you never want to leave His presence—then make every effort
to create an inviting atmosphere and develop a disciplined
system to make your time with God:


(1) Nonnegotiable. Make a specific commitment of time to
get alone with God every day. No exceptions. Not only
when you feel like it or when it’s convenient. This is
