Let God Talk to You: When You Hear Him, You Will Never Be the Same

(nextflipdebug2) #1

just hearing or thinking my own thoughts? His voice is
different than mine!

When the Holy Spirit talks to me, he cuts right through my impure
motives and exposes them for what they are—greed, jealousy, or
lies. He gives me thoughts that are good and pure and true.
The Holy Spirit does not play favorites. He doesn’t puff me, but
neither does He tear me down. The Holy Spirit is very encouraging,
very loving, and very affirming toward me. He doesn’t condemn me
or allow me to think or speak negative words to myself or others.
He stops the “train of thoughts” that head down that track.
The Holy Spirit is far more generous than I would be. When I think
“less,” I hear Him say, “How about giving more?”

The Holy Spirit’s voice never contradicts or denies God’s written
words found in the Bible; they reflect God’s purity and power. I am
reminded of faith-filled verses that cause me to agree with God’s
Word rather than ignore it.

The Holy Spirit does not tempt me. His voice leads me away from
my temptations. He reminds me of the promises of purity and
sobriety that I’ve made and kept for years. He fills me with an
instant and powerful wave of courage to fight the good fight.
Sometimes the Holy Spirit catches my attention with a breeze— I
physically feel the wind brush against my neck or cheeks or
shoulders, and it’s so soft and warm that I look up or around and am
compelled to say, “It’s YOU!” And I hear, “Yes, it is me. I love
you.”
The Holy Spirit is very patient. I’m just... not. So whenever I am
tempted to lose my temper, or I feel anxiety creeping up on me, I
know if I will get out of my own way, He’ll fill me up with an ability
to wait, or hesitate, to listen and not talk—if I just let Him calm me.
