Mohammed's Koran: Why Muslims Kill For Islam

Sirat Rasul Allah, Oxford University Press, 1955, p.516. That it took
Mohammed four years to die from the poisoning that occurred after the
Muslim armyʼs raid on Khaybar is rather strange (see Robert Mantram,
Great Dates in Islamic History, New York, 1996, p.5). Perhaps
Mohammed or his Companions blamed the earlier poisoning incident so
that Mohammed could appear to die as the consequence of a battle, and
    therefore die as a jihadi.
Narrated Aisha: The Prophet in his ailment in which he died, used to
say, “O Aisha! I still feel the pain caused by the food I ate at Khaibar, and
at this time, I feel as if my aorta is being cut from that poison”. Sahih
