ing combination for shooting models, because you have the beautiful light
covering the model’s face and figure—but, by controlling the output of the
flash, you can also quickly change the look and feel of the image.
Practical Example: Morning Light.Image4-9was a test for the model’s
submission toPlayboy. The goal was to create a dramatic shot to accompany
a series of cowgirl-themed images. This was to be an impact shot. In order to
shoot the early-morning sunrise, we were in the desert, set up, and ready to
shoot well before dawn. The quality of light at this time of day is warmer, as
the sun’s rays penetrate more of the atmosphere, but it is also very brief. As
a result, exacting preparation was essential—we knew there would be only a
brief moment when all the ingredients came together for the perfect shot.
