When I purchase a domain to use to promote an affiliate
product, I am looking for something that is not too long,
contains a keyword phrase, and one that is generic enough
to be used for a similar product, if I decide to switch it.
What I mean here is that I may purchase a domain such as
http://BloggingJumpstart.com with the intention of
setting up an optin page or a blog. Time may pass and
someone may create a program on blogging that I now
wish to promote instead. It is simple enough to redirect
this domain, using the forwarding and masking process
available through GoDaddy, or most any of the domain
registrars, to point to my affiliate link for this new
program. Right now I have it pointed to Denise Wakeman's
Viral Blogging course, and I highly recommend her
training. In the future, if I would decide to promote
someone else's product on blogging – highly unlikely in
this instance – or to create my own optin page – a distinct
possibility – all I would need to do would be to redirect
that domain name to the new site.
Once you purchase a domain, go into your domain
management area at your registrar (GoDaddy gets my
highest recommendation for this) and click on the link that
is to forward and mask your domain. Then copy/paste your
affiliate link so that when someone clicks on your domain
they will be taken to the affiliate's site through your
affiliate link.
