panionstar. Itisthuseasily foundthatinproportion
toitsmass,thecompanionstarisnotonethousandth
partasluminousasisSirius.
Thesearethefindingsofmodernastronomy. Stu-
dentsoftheskieshaveatlengthreachedthegreatand
finaltruththat "onestardiflfereth fromanother star
inglory,"orradiance. Ittookmuchpatient,careful,
accurateinvestigation,andittooktime,togathersuf-
ficientfactstogetatlasttothegreattruth. Butthe
studentof theWord wastold,nearly two thousand
yearsago,thatone stardiffers fromanotherstarin
radiance. Herewasthegreattruth,givenbytheGod
whomadethestars. Here wasatruth which com-
prehendedthe facts. But men refusedto creditthe
truthuntiltheycouldfinditthroughthefacts.
Had theybelieved theWord, and conductedtheir
investigationsinitslight,doubtlessitwouldhavebeen
totheman invaluableaid. Whenthat faithentered,
knowledge of thetruth would have come with that
faith. Theonlythinglefttodowouldhavebeento
findthe facts. ButGod knewthatitwouldbeages
beforethe factscouldbegatheredone byone. For
ourownbestgood,Heleftustosearchthemout;but
tokeepusfromignoranceduringtheinterval,Hegave
us theeternaltruth. And astronomers, thoughthey
shouldliveeverlastingyears,wouldneverbeableto
reviseoramendthissimplestatementofGod.
