emigratingto Londonfor the techboomunderwaythereafterthe war.OnNovember29,
1952 Patand Markweremarriedin London.Theirfirst child,TimothyMarkwas bornin 1954
in Taplow,near London,afterwhichtheyemigratedto Montréal,Canada,and fromthereto
Bogotá,Colombia,wheretheirdaughterJuliawas born,and fromthereto the UnitedStates,
whereson JohnStephenswas bornin ScotchPlains,New Jersey.For mostof theirchildren’s
schoolingthe familylivedin Westwood,Massachusetts,wherePatbuilt aphenomenalgarden

In 1975Pat, Mark,and Johnimmigratedbackto Montréal,wheretheyresidedfor two years
beforereturningto the UnitedStatesto live in Nashville,Tennessee.In1979 theymovedto
Washington,DC and for the last 17 and ahalf yearsof her life,duringher widowhood,Patlived
at RiderwoodSeniorLivingCommunityin SilverSpring,Maryland,ahomeshe greatlyenjoyed
and whereshe paintedwatercolorsand learnedto play the pianoat age 79.
Despitethe travailsof her childhood,she oftensaid of her life that she had “falleninto apot of

He volunteeredwiththe localcomputer
club,taughtcomputergenealogicalapplica-
tion and was very activein several comput-
erusergroupsprovidingpersonalcomputer
training.Hewas amemberof the Sonsof
the Revolution(SAR)and memberof the
Veterans MemorialPostAmericanLegion
Post 347.

the years,was visitedby collectorsand
connoisseurswheretheywouldshareabot-
tle of wineand exchangestoriesof their
adventures.

man–aman of faith,integrityand inherent
decency.Hewas amagnetfor people,self-

manyand respectedby all. His talent,wit
and gentlespiritwill be missed.

Amemberof the NavalROTC at the Univer-
sity of Utah,he receivedhis commission
upongraduationin 1954and was assigned
to flightschool.His thirty-yearNavycareer
includedvariousduties,but he considered
himselffirstand foremostan aviator.He
servedwithfive squadrons,deployingto
basesworldwide.Hewas the commanding
officerof Patrol Squadrons24 and 30, and
CommanderPatrol Wing11. Afterpromo-
tion to RearAdmiral, he servedas Com-
manderIcelandDefenseForce and Director,
ASWDivision,Officeof the CNO.
Afterhis retirementfromthe Navy,hecon-
tinuedto serveas aprogram managerin the
appliedresearchand developmentindustry.
He embracedtechnologyand innovation,
and contributedgreatlyto the research,de-
velopmentand advocacyof advancedtech-
nologiesand navalcapabilities.Althoughhe
had careersuccess,his familyalwayscame
first.
He enjoyedamateurradio,all thingselec-
tronics,RVing,woodworking,readingand
listeningto Pavarotti.
Richardis survivedby his children,Kenneth
(Lauri),Steven,and Catherine;grandchildren
Laura, Julian(Silvana)and Maia;and sister
JeanBradshaw.Hewas deeplylovedby his
familyand friendsand will be dearlymissed.
