INDICATIONS AND USAGE
TANSY FLOWER AND HERB
Unproven Uses: Tansy preparations are used as an anthel-
mintic, for migraine, neuralgia, rheumatism, bloating and
loss of appetite.

TANSY OIL
Unproven Uses: Tansy oil is used internally for gout,
rheumatic complaints, joint pains, stomach cramps, gastroin-
testinal infections, intermittent fever, dizziness and dysme-
norrhea. It is used externally for rheumatism, gout,
contusions, sprains and wounds.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
The drug should not be used during pregnancy.

PRECAUTIONS AND ADVERSE REACTIONS

The administration of therapeutic dosages of drugs that have
a high thujone content (see Tanaceti aetheroleum) can lead to
poisoning. Beyond that, there is a medium potential for
sensitization via skin contact with the drug. Internal adminis-
tration of the drug in allopathic dosages is to be avoided.

Particularly toxic are volatile oils with high thujone content.
Poisonings occur chiefly through the misuse of the drug as
an abortifacient. Administration in allopathic dosages is to be
avoided.

OVERDOSAGE
TANSY OIL
Symptoms of poisoning include vomiting, abdominal pain,
gastroenteritis, severe reddening of the face, mydriasis, fixed
pupil, tonic-clonic spasms, cardiac arrhythmias, uterine
bleeding, kidney damage and liver damage. Death occurs
after 1 to 3.5 hours. The lethal dosage is approximately 15-
30 gm. The treatment for poisonings can only proceed
symptomatically.

Daily Dosage: Administration in allopathic dosages is to be
avoided.

TANSY OIL
Mode of Administration: The drug is found in extract form in
a small number of combination preparations.

Daily Dosage: Administration in allopathic dosages is to be
avoided. The documented single dose is 0.1 gm.
