Exhibit 4-33. Explaining the rating of perceived exertion (RPE)
When the timer starts, the Warm-up Stage for the predetermined protocol (the middle
protocol on the screen) will be highlighted in red.
At 15 seconds into Warm-up, the ISIS system will give the auditory message:
“Explain RPE.”
Explain the Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) using the standard script. See Section
3.9.7 for procedures for explaining RPE and Section 3.10 for procedures if the RPE
exceeds the criteria.
Throughout this stage, monitor the % HR scale on the ISIS screen and the SP’s
current heart rate, which is displayed digitally on the BP monitor.
The SP’s heart rate should be below 60 percent of the PMHR.
